We enter this tourist, "snowbird" season with trepidation and hope because of the state of the economy. It is bizarre that this all came crashing in 5 weeks before the US presidential election. Why now and not 3 months, a year or whatever ago? Nevertheless, we need to remember that we are a strong people in a blessed country. Our roots were shaken during the depression, Black Monday, 9/11 and so on, but we are a tenacious people and WILL buckle down and recover. In the meantime, Sarasota offers a wonderful place to see, taste and smell the joys of life. I understand the Seminole Indians gave Sarasota it's name which means "Sacred Ground". It was so named because the native Americans found shelter from the devastating harms of the annual tropical storms and hurricanes. Today, we all still find shelter, here on sacred ground, with our families, friends and community at large. If we all stick together and continue to march forward, helping each other along the way, we Will succeed. I pray blessings on the local businesses, and charities who give so much us. I hope that in these troubled times, we will all find ways to keep our friends in business, the needy blessed abundantly, a revival of the real estate market and the economy moving upward. Happy 2008-2009 season everyone!
